While most of our time is taken up planning and delivering programmes targeting boys and their

families we are able to deliver training to staff. At the moment we have the accredited training for those wanting to deliver the About Boys Course 0-5 and 5-11 (click here for details) and we also have training for professionals working with boys in the early years.

There are a number of concerns about boys in the early years, they include:

  • Differences between girls and boys in CLLD;
  • Discipline and boundary problems for some boys;
  • Boys low levels of interest and motivation to engage with the curriculum and formal work generally;
  • Conditions such as ADHD being diagnosed earlier (commonly held view that diagnosis and medication should be 7 and over);
  • Of those parents seeking help with their children, an estimated four out of five seek help about their sons.

We are now able to offer workshops, training programmes and general talks on boy’s development and achievement. All of these are designed on a strong evidence-base and extensive experience of the trainer.

Here are some examples:

Half day workshop [3 hours]

Title: Boys Development and Implications for Early Years
Targeted at: Early Years Practitioners
Participants will leave with:
1. An increased understanding of boy’s development and gender differences;
2. Increased knowledge of how to engage boys.

Full day workshop [6 hours]

Title: Boys Development and Achievement in Early Years
Targeted at: Early Years Practitioners
Participants will leave with:
1. An increased understanding of boy’s development and gender differences;
2. An increased confidence in engaging and getting the best from boys;
3. A number of techniques that work effectively with boys.

Two full day’s training [12 hours]

Title: Boys Development and Achievement in Early Years
Targeted at: Early Years Practitioners
Participants will leave with:
1. An increased understanding of boy’s development and gender differences;
2. An increased confidence in engaging and getting the best from boys;
3. A number of techniques that work effectively with boys;
4. An increased ability to plan and deliver outcome-based projects with built in evaluation and a realistic model of change.

Basic cost of a trainer is £850 per day, but will vary in terms of numbers of participants; how far away from London; travel and any accommodation and numbers of workshops.

All events include PowerPoint note sheets and other handouts for participants to take away.
