Projects, Consultancy and Training

We have five recently completed projects:

Boys in Early Years (commissioned by Manchester Early Years) had two parts, the first was to provide training to those working with boys (3-5) in the 40 Children’s Centres across the city and the second involved supporting 18 initiatives with boys focussing on communication, school skills and motivation. This project ran from September 2010 until July 2011 and the final report is now available. Download here:Download

Warwickshire Young Fathers Scoping which involved a geographical scoping; an agency telephone audit; a practice focussed literature review; consultations with young fathers and the development of an appropriate and realistic strategy. This project was completed in April and a report is now available. Download here:Download

BDPBoys Talking Sex funded by the Department for Education and commissioned by Brook) which aimed to consult with significant numbers of boys and young men about their attitudes and behaviours towards sexual health. We provided workers with a monthly session plans, they delivered this to a group of young men and feed back their views, which we then compile into themed reports. Because of so many of the projects involved being cut, we have put this on hold until the sector settles down.

The first two summary reports ‘Young Men and what others think of them consultations’ and 'Young Men and the law' can be downloaded here:

The themes are gender differences, boy’s development, discipline and boundaries, motivation, communication and boy’s achievement. Professionals can attend a training course, which leads to accreditation to deliver this very successful programme. Sixty people are currently in the accreditation process. Boys at home and school (funded by six Lewisham Primary Schools), which targets specific families where boys are struggling at school. This programme offers families strategies and support to increase their abilities to provide boundaries and discipline to their sons. Programmes are still being delivered and evaluated to see the potential for mainstreaming. This is an on-going project in two schools.

Pastoral Care Initiative - we have been funded by and working with a Lewisham Primary School looking at ways to address behaviour issues, especially with boys. We are partly reviewing and revising policy and procedures, but also developing specific initiatives to be delivered in this academic year.
